Post-Conference Wrap-Up
President Erin McDonald and I have just returned from SLA 2014, which was held in beautiful Vancouver this year. As always, the conference was full of stimulating sessions, fantastic networking opportunities, and – surprisingly – lovely, sunny weather. I was very happy to see such a strong turnout from Toronto Chapter members – over 30 in attendance! And, of course, many colleagues from our hosts, the Western Canada Chapter, and from the Eastern Canada Chapter, were also in attendance.
This year’s conference, like last year’s, was held over three days instead of four – which meant there was a lot of content and activities to pack into a short amount of time. This also meant that new formats were tried, like Quick Takes (15 minute presentations), Spotlight Sessions, and some overlapping sessions.
If you haven’t done so already, be sure to check out the Twitter conversations using hashtag #SLA2014. So many insights and takeaways were shared through Twitter, but you can also check out upcoming post-conference webinars or attend the Virtual Conference when sessions are released later this year. You can also follow #SLA2015 if you want to start planning ahead for Leadership Summit 2015 in Baltimore, or SLA Conference 2015 in Boston.
Future Planning
I’m now starting to gear up in earnest for my year as President in 2015, and welcome any questions, suggestions, or comments about the Toronto Chapter, how we’re serving you, SLA governance, or any other inquiries. We are also always looking for volunteers, so please don’t be afraid to pipe up if you’d like to take a more active role in the Chapter. Please email me at Bernadette (dot) roca (at) gmail (dot) com.
I’m looking forward to the rest of 2014, and to the new year!
Happy summer,
—Bernadette Roca
